BBQ Themed Party? Sizzle King Style!
Memorial Day.…Fourth of July….Labor Day – All big barbeque days, for sure! But holidays aren’t the only times to have great barbeques. There are birthdays, anniversaries, bridal showers, graduations, baby showers and gender reveal parties and so many more good reasons to gather with family and friends to enjoy a barbeque.
Have you noticed that most children’s birthday parties these days are theme parties? Disney parties, Superhero parties, Toy Story parties, and Star Wars parties, with costumes, decorations, activities, and menus all reflecting the themes. And they’re great parties! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a theme party for grown-ups?
How to Throw a Themed Grill Out for Grown Up’s
1. Pick an occasion – A holiday or a special event to celebrate.
2. Set a budget. There are hundreds of resources for party themes on the internet, and their plans can be pricey, but if you are creative, you can spend more time than money on your preparations and decorations.
3. Check out internet resources for adult barbeques, from Stylecaster and Pinterest.
4. Look for bargains on supplies and decorations at dollar stores, party supply stores, and online at Oriental Trading Company.
5. See how many of the decorations you can make yourself using ideas from the websites listed above. There are some wonderful invitations, decorations and party activities available to print for free.
6. Plan your menu and gather interesting recipes. And don’t forget the basics, like our juicy Sizzle King frozen quarter pound beef and turkey patties. Available in two and four pound packages, they are convenient, economical, and delicious.
Celebrate with Sizzle King Burgers
Black & White Casino Party
Here’s a terrific plan for a Casino Party all done in black and white, with accents of red and green. Even the food! Along with the menu items shown, we think black and white (well, sort of) burgers made with our Sizzle King beef and turkey patties would be perfect! Look for buns as close as you can find to black and white, such as powdered potato and dark pumpernickel buns. Garnish with Monterey Jack cheese, tomato slices and lettuce.
Guests are asked to wear black and/or white and decorations include red or green tablecloths, playing cards, casino chips, and dice. And don’t miss the last photo on that web-page – giant King and Queen cards with faces cut out for some fun photos!
Have a Baby-Q Baby Shower or Gender Reveal Party
You’ll find some great ideas for invitations, decorations, and activities at HGTV. Along with great decorating and menu ideas, you’ll find this sweet activity.
Letting Guests Help Create Advice Banners – Using pastel-colored card stock paper animal shapes, invite guests to write their advice to the soon-to-be parents. The animals are then attached with clothespins to ribbon banners on the wall. Check out another fun (and funny) activity, The Diaper Game.
Gather all of the men and have a race to see which man can change a diaper the fastest – with one hand tied behind his back and blindfolded!
You can find a variety of free printable baby shower games on this website.
For your menu, there are dozens of ideas and recipes for pink and baby blue foods and other treats. Check out these ideas on Pinterest.
Come As You Were Party
Guests are asked to come as they were in high school, wearing anything from everyday wear or a sport uniform to a cheerleader outfit or dressed for the prom. Photos of guests’ high school days, yearbook or prom pictures can be suspended from anchored helium balloons or posted on a wall. You can make a game out of identifying the people in the photos.
Have props (like a basketball, sunglasses, books, etc.) and rent a photo booth (or have disposable cameras available for guests to take pictures for you, with the promise that you will post them on a web page for them to enjoy long after the party is over.) You can decorate with crepe paper streamers, pictures of school mascots, and cool cars from “back in the day”.
Make sure to have lots of oldies songs to dance to and sing along with. And the menu? Well, what was likely their favorite meal in high school? A hamburger with fries and a Coke, of course! Snacks can be as simple as potato chips and Hershey bars. And beer – Just promise not to tell their parents or the school principal.
Murder Mystery Barbeque
If you are super-creative, you can write the backstory and set the plot on your own. But be assured that there are many themes outlined on the internet and several packaged games that you can purchase. University Games offers six mystery games, available for under $20 each, but they are for 6 to 8 players only.
One happens to be perfect for a barbeque – “Murder on The Grill” These games come with all of the following:
Party Planner with recipes and menu by Cookbook Author Sandra Gluck - including music and decorating tips
Character Booklets for all suspects, includes their roles and background information
Eight Place Cards
Eight Party Invitations and Envelopes
Six Secret Clues
Compact Disc with an introduction, summary of events and solution to the crime.
For $30 to $50 each, Playing With Murder offers ten games for 8 to 35 players.
And check out Night of Mystery’s website. They offer 26 different mysteries for various sized parties with prices starting around $50. Their website explains in detail how to plan and play the game.
