Hey Sizzle King Burger Fans… Check Out These World Record Burgers
Have you ever watched a YouTube video and found that some people and restaurants really take the amazing hamburger to extraordinary lengths? Personally, we can’t imagine producing a burger that is the size of some of these huge record breakers, but we wanted to share them with our customers because… we love burgers too.
The Current Record Holder for the Largest Manmade Hamburger
On July 9th of 2017, six friends from Pilsting Germany, set a new Guinness World Record for the largest manmade hamburger. If you are wondering how big a burger would have to be, to knock this contender out of the first place, here are some facts about the monster burger created by Wolfgang Leeb, Tom Reicheneder, Rudi Dietl, Josef Zellner, Hans Maurer and Christian Dischinger.
· The hamburger weighed 2,566 pounds and 9 ounces.
· It was constructed from three meat patties.
· Toppings included tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, and hamburger sauce
Watch the video to see how the monolithic record-breaking burger was cooked and assembled.
And then because burgers are meant for sharing, after it was validated by Guinness Book of World Records, it was sold to assembled burger fans to benefit charity. Before Germany accomplished this new record-breaking feat, the previous world record was won by a burger constructed in Carlton, Minnesota in 2012, which weighed 2,000 pounds.
Largest Commercially Served Hamburgers
Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub has claimed that they are the “Home of the World’s Largest Burgers”. Located in Clearfield Pennsylvania, the pub has become famous for serving gargantuan sized homemade burgers that are the stuff legends are made of.
If you are up to the challenge, you can visit Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub and try to complete the “Ye Olde 96er” which is six pounds of beef and nine pounds total including toppings. Some competitive eaters have called the burger the “Holy Grail” but Guinness Book of World Record’s has dubbed it the “largest hamburger commercially available”, and the certificate of the record-breaking award is framed and proudly displayed for patrons in the dining area. The restaurant began serving the belly-busting burger in 1998, and it is a state and National destination for tourists and burger fans.
That’s not the only thing you can see and admire at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub though. The wall is full of polaroid pictures of people who have attempted to consume the “Ye Olde 96er”. Each photo has a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ and the date of the attempt, to record people who miraculously finished the burger and those who simply had to walk away defeated.
But that is also not the largest burger that Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub sells. They also sell an official “Belly Buster” burger, that is made for two people to share. The burger is comprised of 11 pounds of meat, plus toppings and tips the scale at 15 total pounds, standing over 12 inches (one foot) high. To date, only one person who has ordered the “Belly Buster” has been able to successfully complete it, and in an interview for Road Side America, the owners shared that another interesting contender came close. He was a Sumo wrestler on vacation from Japan, who ate half of the amazing burger in an hour, before conceding to a full tummy and staring at the leftovers with dismay.
Check out the video below for their ‘regular sized’ 3-pound burger.
The crowned victor of man versus the Beer Barrel Belly Buster, was a 21-year old man named Brad Sciullo from Uniontown Pennsylvania. He ate the entire 15-pound burger in 4 hours and 39 minutes. That’s commitment right there.
The World’s Most Expensive Burger
At an American themed restaurant in London England called Honky Tonk, the Chef’s released what is believed to still be the world’s most expensive retail burger. It was called the original Glamburger, and it cost about $2,000 U.S. Watch this video to see the burger assembled in the kitchen.
What was inside of the now famous $2,000 burger? Just a few run-of the mill and common ingredients like:
· Lobster poached in Iranian saffron
· Maple syrup coated streaky bacon
· Beluga caviar
· Hickory smoked duck egg (covered in gold leaf and seasoned with Japanese matcha)
· Cream mayonnaise
· Mango
· Champagne jus
· Grated white truffle
The Glamburger is not available for purchase, but customers can order the Mini Glam burger with a single ½ pound beef patty, brie, truffle oil, half a golden egg and a gold leaf sprinkled bun, for $40. The ultimate burger, if you happen to be visiting London England and want to add that to your burger bucket list.
